We had a great afternoon last Friday as we held another successful Drop Everything and Read event. The idea behind DEAR is to reinforce the message of how important reading is and to show how much fun it can be!
Our FS2 and KS1 children walked down to Totley library where they were made to feel extremely welcome by all the volunteers who work there. The children had a great time sharing books together and it was particularly good to see our Y2 children reading with the little ones.
Meanwhile, back at school, our KS2 staff had prepared 10 minute presentations on their favourite books. Groups of children then ”speed dated” their way between different rooms around school to find out all about the texts which inspired the adults in school to love reading. These included a diverse range of examples such as Enid Blyton’s Mallory towers, Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, Shakespeare’s King Lear and JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
