To finish off our Victorian topic, year 5 held ‘The Great Exhibition of 2014’. For two days, the children focused on creating their own Great Exhibition. They considered where it would be held, how it would be advertised and what exhibits would be there. The children did some fantastic work creating their own inventions, or adapting present day technology and architecture. Some of our exhibits included: the Invisibility Towers, The Shard, a hovercraft, an under-sea building, a walking and talking i-pad, a ‘pear phone’, and Totley Primary School! Before we exhibited our work, the children decided on a very interesting way of advertising – a ‘flash mob’!

Later on in the half-term, our topic focus was ‘Healthy me’. At the start of our topic the children measured their pulse rate while relax, and after exercise. For two weeks the children did at least 20 minutes of exercise everyday. They measured their pulse rates again at the end of the topic and most children noticed a reduction in their relaxed and active pulse rates! Ask a year 5 child what this means…! We were lucky to have a visitor from hospital talking to our children about how to keep our organs healthy.
